Establishments in Krishnagiri to carry Tamil name boards

The district administration has mandated that all establishments should have name boards in Tamil by May 15, 2025.

A district-level consultation under the Department of Labour and Skill Development was chaired by Collector C. Dinesh Kumar to implement the mandate across shops, eateries and other industries.

Under the Tamil Nadu Shops and Establishments Act, 1947 and the rules 1948, under Section 15, all shops must set up name boards in Tamil. Similarly, under the Tamil Nadu Catering Establishment Act, 1958 and the Governing Rules of 1958, under Section 42b, all hotels and eateries must set up name boards in Tamil. Similarly, under the Indian Factories Act, 1948 and the Governing Rules 1950, under Rule 113, all industries must bear name boards in in Tamil.

The name boards must bear the name of the establishment prominently in Tamil, followed by English. The owners may choose to include as many languages after the name in English. The mandate extends to private schools and colleges as well.

A district level committee headed by the Collector with all line departments as members has been convened to implement the State government order mandating name boards in Tamil.
