Eleven 11 militia members of the Galikonda Area Committee of the banned CPI (Maoist) surrendered before Alluri Sitharama Raju district Superintendent of Police Amit Bardar here on Saturday.
As many as 39 criminal cases had earlier been registered against them, the police said.
The surrendered militia members were Vanthala Bhaskar Rao (24), Tambeli Subba Rao (33), Korra Krishna (20), Gemmili Pentayya (40), and seven others, all from G.K. Veedhi area.
Mr. Bardar said the militia members surrendered as they were vexed with the “outdated ideology” of the Maoist party. They were attracted by the development programmes of the State government and the district police under the community policing initiative, he added.
Mr. Bardar called upon the Maoists to give up arms and join the mainstream, and take advantage of the government’s welfare schemes and facilities to lead a happy life with their families.
He said steps would be taken to ensure that all concessions from the government were given to the surrendered Maoists in time.
