Electricity consumption crossed 100 million units (mu) for the first time this summer on Tuesday (March 4), show power sector data.
The daily consumption stood at 100.84 mu on Tuesday, with the summer temperatures driving up the usage.
A few days ago, Electricity Minister K. Krishnankutty had said that the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) was expecting the consumption to cross the 100 mu mark in March.
Kerala had recorded its highest daily consumption of 115.94 million units (mu) on May 3 last year. The highest peak demand of 5,797 megawatts (MW) was recorded on May 2 last year.
Of the 100.84 mu used on Tuesday, electricity ‘imports’ accounted for 80.76 mu. Internal generation, driven largely by hydropower, contributed just 20.08 mu.
Reservoirs of hydel dams had a combined storage of 55%, equivalent to 2271.33 mu, on Tuesday.
