Elderly woman injured in chain snatching incident near Ambur

A 62-year-old woman was injured after she fell from a two-wheeler in which she was travelling when a biker snatched 10 sovereigns of gold chain from her near Ambur town in Tirupattur on Chennai – Bengaluru Highway (NH 44) on Thursday.

Police said F. Sheela, a native of Ambur, was travelling as a pillion rider with her daughter in-law was riding a two-wheeler on the stretch when a biker snatched her gold chain. They were returning after attending a function at their relative’s house on the stretch.

In the impact, Sheela lost balance in the two-wheeler and fell down. She sustained injuries on her hip, legs and hands. Immediately, other motorists and passerby rescued her. Based on the alert, Ambur Taluk police arrived at the spot and shifted her to Government Taluk Hospital in Ambur. Sheela told police that her gold chain was snatched by a pillion rider while another person was riding the two-wheeler.

Tirupattur SP Shreya Gupta has formed special teams to nab the suspects. A case was registered. Police are analysing CCTV footage on the route to nab them. A probe is underway.
