Excise dept. ignoring woes and protests of farmers of Palakkad by sanctioning the brewery, says KPCC vice president

Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) vice president V.T. Balram has levelled corruption charges against the State government for permitting a brewery at Elappully in Palakkad district.

He was inaugurating the second day’s satyagraha led by Karshaka Congress State president Majush Mathew in protest against the proposed brewery on Sunday. Mr. Mathew launched his 100-hour satyagraha at the Anchuvilakku junction here on Saturday.

‘Plachimada agitation’

Mr. Balram accused the State Excise department of ignoring the woes and protests of the farmers of Palakkad while giving sanction for the brewery. He warned the government not to forget the Plachimada agitation.

He said giving permission to set up a brewery in Elappully, one of the rain shadow areas of Palakkad district, exemplified the government’s attitude to the district’s farmers.

Karshaka Congress State president Kallikkattu Rajendran presided over the function. KPCC general secretary P.M. Niyas; District Congress Committee (DCC) vice president Sumesh Achuthan; and Karshaka Congress district president B. Iqbal were among those who spoke.
