Chief Executive Officer of the Dharwad Zilla Panchayat and Acting Deputy Commissioner Bhuvanesh Patil on Thursday visited various localities and low-lying areas in Annigeri town and adjoining places that witnessed inundation following heavy rain on Wednesday night.
During his visit to Surakod Extension in Annigeri, which is inundated, Mr. Patil directed the taluk and municipal officials to immediately take steps to drain out the rainwater.
He instructed them to verify the original map of the residential layout and clear inundation of storm-water drainage. He also instructed them to chalk out an action plan and submit it at the earliest for approval.
Subsequently, he inspected the damage on the service road of the National Highway that passes by the town. The residents aired their grievances and said that as the drains are narrow and filled with silt, they overflow during heavy rain causing inundation of houses.
