The police have arrested two youths, who were wanted in at least six cases of chain snatching in Coimbatore.

A. Shabeel, 19, of Roja Garden at South Ukkadam and H. Samvarathan, 19, of G.M. Nagar at South Ukkadam were arrested late on Sunday. A total of 49 grams of gold, ₹36,000 and two motorcycles were recovered from them.

The police claimed that the duo suffered fractures on their left leg after meeting with an accident.

Three special teams of the police were on the lookout for Shabeel and Samvarathan after their involvement was confirmed in six chain snatching incidents reported at R.S. Puram, Pappanaickenpalayam, Uppilipalayam, Singanallur, Ondipudur and Peelamedu.

The police examined visuals from multiple surveillance cameras to trace the identities of the two youths, who had covered their faces with masks and caps. They used stolen two-wheelers to snatch chains.

Meanwhile, the police were alerted by a private hospital in the city on Sunday morning that two youths sought treatment for fractures on their left legs. The duo had told the hospital staff that they met with an accident near Keeranatham Pirivu in the city. The police rushed to the hospital and identified them.

The accused used to walk along railway tracks to stay away from the radar of the police.
