Police present the men found guilty of gangrape of an elderly woman before the media, in Annamayya district on Monday

The Kadapa Mahila and VII Additional District Court on Monday sentenced two men to life imprisonment after they were found guilty of gangrape of a 75-year-old woman in Annamayya district. The Court also imposed a fine of ₹1,01,000 each.

The accused identified as Desuri Naveen Kumar (38) and Kovvuri Narasimhulu (55), residents of T-Sundupalle mandal, were found guilty under the BNS Sections 376-D and 323.

The incident was reported on the night of July 9, 2022, when the victim was asleep at home. The accused, under the influence of liquor, barged into her house on the pretext of needing drinking water. After the woman made a commotion, they turned away but returned around midnight. They dragged her out of the house took her to an isolated spot, and committed the crime. Hearing her cries for help, the neighbourhood rushed to the spot, but the accused fled the scene. Based on her complaint, the area police registered a case at the T-Sundupalli police station.

After a thorough investigation and intense search, the police arrested the men and promptly filed the chargesheet. Superintendent of Police V. Vidyasagar Naidu commended the police team, court liaison officers, and additional public prosecutor Yasmeen Begum for their efforts in bringing the accused to justice.
