Drill conducted in Coimbatore to assess disaster preparedness

Royal Care Super Speciality Hospital, in collaboration with the Lions Club of Karumathampatti, Karumathampatti Police, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), and 108 Emergency Services, conducted a drill to assess disaster preparedness at Karumathampatti on Wednesday.

According to a release, the exercise simulated a road traffic accident involving a school bus with around 20 injured children. Nearby personnel raised the alarm and alerted the Emergency Response Team (ERT) and emergency services.

According to Dr. K. Madeswaran, Chairman and Managing Director of Royal Care Hospital, the drill aimed to evaluate the readiness and efficiency of the ERT and on-site personnel in handling such incidents. “The focus was on response time, communication, securing the area, and ensuring the safety of those involved or exposed to the incident,” he said.

The hospital’s Emergency Response Team, NHAI Road Safety Assistance (1033), and 108 services responded within minutes of the alert, assessed the simulated injuries, and ensured the area was secure.

Officials present included NHAI Project Director Senthilkumar, Karumathampatti DSP P. Thangaraman, Inspector of Police Vadivelkumar, Royal Care Chief Operating Officer Dr. K. T. Manisenthilkumar, Vice-President for Quality System and Accreditation Dr. D. Gandhiraj, Consultant Spine Surgeon Dr. Sudhakaran, and Lions Club of Karumathampatti office-bearers- president – Revathi, secretary – Karthikeyan, and treasurer – Mylsamy.
