DMK revamps district units based on Assembly constituencies to accommodate various communities and youth

The ruling DMK’s high command on Thursday appointed secretaries/in-charge to new party district units in Erode, Tiruppur, Villupuram, and Madurai after revamping them on the basis of Assembly constituencies.

The party has created four new district units. The objective of the changes, party sources, said was to give more representations to minorities, Vanniyars, Badugas, youth, Dalit, and Vellalars.

As per the announcement made by party general secretary Duraimurugam, Housing and Urban Development Minister S. Muthusamy has been made in-charge of Erode South district which includes Erode East, West, and Modakurichi Assembly constituencies.

N. Nallasivam is in-charge of Erode North district unit, including Anthiyur, Bhavanisagar, and Gopichettipalayam Assembly constituencies.

Former AIADMK Minister Thoppu Venkatachalam, who joined the DMK, is in-charge of Erode Central district unit. It covers Bhavani and Perundurai constituencies. DMK MLA K. Selvaraj has been put in charge of Tiruppur East district unit. It includes Palladam and Tiruppur South.

Tamil Development and Information Minister M.P. Saminathan has been made in-charge-of Tiruppur West and the district unit comprises Kangeyam and Dharapuram Assembly constituencies.

N. Dineshkumar is in-charge-of Tiruppur North, and the district unit includes Avinasi and Tiruppur North Assembly constituencies. L. Padmanabhan has been made in-charge-of Tiruppur South, and the district unit comprises Udumalaipettai and Madathukulam constituencies.

Former Minister Gingee K.S. Masthan has been appointed as district secretary of Villupuram North unit, and it includes Gingee, Mayilam, and Tindivanam constituencies. Former MP and Forest Minister K. Ponmudy’s son Gowthama Sigamani has been made in-charge-of Villupuram South and the district unit includes Tirukovilur and Vikravandi.

DMK MLA R. Lakshmanan will function as the secretary of the party’s Villupuram Central district unit. It includes Villupuram and Vaanur constituencies. Lakshmanan, a Vanniyar, was with the AIADMK before joining the DMK. Commercial Taxes Minister P. Moorthi has been given the position as district secretary of Madurai North unit. It includes Melur, Cholavanthan, Madurai East, and Madurai West

DMK MLA K. Thalapathi has been appointed as secretary of the party’s Madurai City unit. It includes Madurai North, Madurai Central, and Madurai South Assembly constituencies.

In the Thanjavur region, party MLA K. Annadurai has been divested of his position as the secretary of Thanjavur South district unit. He has been replaced by Palanivel. Former MLA B.M. Mubarak has been relieved from the post of district secretary of the Nilgiris. K.M. Raju has replaced him.

Former Minister T.P.M. Mohideenkhan has been removed from the post of the district secretary of Tirunelveli Central unit. DMK MLA M. Abdul Wahab has replaced him. Party MLA T.J.S. Govindarajan has been dropped from the post of the district secretary of the Tiruvallur East unit. M.S.K. Rameshraj has replaced him.
