Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam MP Kathir Anand on Wednesday appeared before the officers of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for inquiry in connection with a case that he was facing.
Recently, the ED, after conducting searches at Kingston Engineering College in Vellore linked to Mr. Anand for four days, seized ₹13.7 crore in cash, along with documents and a computer hard disc. Mr. Anand, a second-time MP, is the son of senior DMK leader and Minister Duraimurugan. He is chairman of the college.
The searches were linked to a 2019 Income Tax case against Mr. Anand over allegations of cash-for-votes during the Lok Sabha elections. In that case, over ₹10 crore was reportedly seized from Mr. Anand’s associates, leading to the countermanding of elections in the Vellore constituency.
