The Supreme Court Dalit Advocates Association has sought rehabilitation of family members of law student Somnath Suryavanshi, who, it claimed, died in police custody in Parbhani, and the dismissal of high-ranking police officials.

“We hereby urge Your Excellency that the family of Somnath Suryavanshi be immediately rehabilitated and all high-ranking police officers concerned with the present crime in Parbhani, Maharashtra, may kindly be dismissed forthwith,” said Anand S Jondhale, convener of the association, in a letter to the President on Sunday.

“It is noteworthy to mention here that despite submission of complaint / representation to the Governor of Maharashtra on 13.12.2024, law student Somnath Suryavanshi was killed by police while he was in custody on 15.12.2024. It shows that neither the Governor nor the police have regard for law” the letter read.
