The Department of Stationery and Printing has established its sixth branch press in Tiruppur, to serve the Western region encompassing Tiruppur, Erode, Coimbatore and Nilgiris districts.

The new office has been established by the 192-year-old department after a gap of over five decades.

The department has other units located in Madurai, Tiruchi, Salem, Pudukottai, and Virudhachalam. The Government Central Press functions at Vallalar Nagar, Chennai. The last branch press office was established in Madurai in 1976.

Minister for Information and Publicity MP Saminathan, under whose Ministry the Department functions, inaugurated the unit along with Minister for Human Resources Development N. Kayalvizhi Selvaraj.

Applicants from the four districts seeking a name change can get the new details updated in the Government Gazette at the Branch Office. Steps will be taken to print seed certificates of the Department of Agriculture, Mr. Saminathan said.

The Minister informed that 231 out of 1460 employees working in the department are differently-abled and the Department generated a revenue of ₹56.21 crore in 2023-2024. A total of 48,592 people got their names changed during the year.

The Department supplies various forms, registers, and typewriters to the government offices, besides printing and distributing forms for birth and death certificates, education, employment, and registers relating to family cards and Agricultural census.

Government Gazettes, Service Register, Law reports, Court, Manuals, Telephone Directories of the Government Offices and other Gazettes are sold to public through the Branch Office. The department also sells Indian Government publications.
