Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday launched the ‘MLA on Wheels’ initiative to bring governance closer to the people and resolve their grievances.
“The main objective of this special initiative is to bring governance closer to the people. It will eliminate the need to visit government offices repeatedly to resolve concerns. Grievances, essential services, and public interest matters will now be addressed directly within the local area,” said Ms. Gupta while inaugurating the initiative.
The mobile office will visit each constituency to address concerns on-site.
“Democracy is strengthened only when people’s problems are resolved at their doorsteps. The mobile office will serve as a bridge between the government and the people,” said Ms. Gupta.
She underscored that the mobile office will be of great help to women, the elderly, and persons with disabilities, who may face difficulties in reaching the government office.
Delhi Cabinet Minister Ashish Sood, who was present at the inauguration, said, “A stenographer and a clerk will also be in the vehicle with a laptop to record and share the complaint with the area’s MLA for prompt action.” The mobile office can accommodate 10 people at once.
Biogas plant inaugurated
Ms. Gupta also inaugurated a cattle dung-based biogas plant with a 200 metric ton capacity at Nangli Dairy in Najafgarh.
“The biogas plant will generate compressed natural gas and fertiliser from cow dung and waste from nearby dairies, which currently enter the Yamuna through local drains. This facility processes 200 metric tons of waste daily,” said the CM.
She added that the Nangli plant will not only help keep the area clean but will also provide villagers an opportunity to earn extra money by selling cow dung.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi said the dung from dairy owners will be collected at a rate of 65 paise per kilogram. The biogas slurry, a nutrient-rich liquid byproduct produced after biogas is generated, will be utilised as a natural fertiliser.
