A Delhi court on Tuesday granted anticipatory bail to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amanatullah Khan in connection with the case of an “attack on a Delhi Police team”.
Special judge Jitendra Singh, who had previously granted him protection from arrest, directed Mr. Khan to join the investigation.
According to the police, the AAP leader on February 10 “led a mob that attacked the police team in Jamia Nagar area and helped a proclaimed offender escape the police custody”.
The Delhi police had sought Mr. Khan’s custody for interrogation. It also placed on record CCTV footage and the statements of witnesses.
The court had earlier said that prima facie the allegation of the AAP MLA being instrumental in facilitating the escape of the accused did not seem to carry any weight as the latter was already on anticipatory bail by an order passed in July 2018.
