BJP National vice-president and Mahabubnagar MP D. K. Aruna said the Congress party has belittled  Dr. B. R. Ambedkar several times in the past, and betrayed his ideals.

The Congress had tried to mislead the people by saying that if voted to power, the BJP would take the drastic step of altering the basic structure of the Constitution. But people realised the Congress party’s intentions and gave their mandate to the BJP, she observed.

Speaking to media persons on Saturday at a meeting organised in the State BJP office here on the eve of the commencement of Dr.B.R. AmbedkarSamman Abhiyan, which will conclude on April 25, Ms. Aruna said the BJP never changed the Constitution as per its whims and fancies.

The Constitutional amendments made by the BJP-led NDA were driven by national interests, she asserted.

Ms. Aruna recalled that Dr. Ambedkar had contested in the Lok Sabha elections but the Congress party ensured that he was defeated,  and even Jawaharlal Nehru was against his triumph.

She said under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, BJP was working to make Dr.Ambedkar’s vision a reality, and that it would continue to expose the Congress party’s cunning and manipulative politics. BJP State president and Rajahmundry MP Daggubati Purandeswari said Dr. Ambedkar worked hard for the establishment of an egalitarian society.

Mr. Modi was committed to delivering equal justice to all sections of society as Dr. Ambedkar had dreamt of and he (the PM) was striving to achieve that goal.

BJP National executive member and MLC Somu Veerraju, party’s State general secretary Dayakar Reddy, SC Morcha State president G. Devanand, former MLA Ayyaji Vema and others were present.
