The Greater Chennai Police Commissioner, A. Arun, on Wednesday held a meeting with senior police officials, including Additional Commissioners and Joint Commissioners, and discussed the security arrangements to be made in the city ahead of the Republic Day.

Sources said there would be five layers of security, and that 7,500 police personnel would be deployed on Kamarajar road for the Republic Day celebrations. Security will be tightened at airport, railway stations, bus stands, business establishments beaches, and places of worship. Lodges and hotels have been searched, and their owners have been urged to provide information on movement of suspicious characters, if any, to the police at the earliest. Patrolling has been intensified, and check posts have been set up at the main entry points to the city.

Anti-sabotage checks will be conducted at all important places, including Chennai Central and Egmore railway stations, and Koyambedu and Madhavaram bus terminals.
