The Coimbatore Corporation will develop a Bamboo Park in SIHS Colony under Ward 55, covering a total area of 4.14 acres. The project is estimated to cost ₹1.46 crore.
The foundation stone for the project was laid on Wednesday by Coimbatore MP Ganapathi P. Rajkumar, Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabakaran and Mayor K. Ranganayaki.
Bringing nature into the city, the Bamboo Park will offer a space for recreation. It will host over 20 tree species and more than 25 plants, shrubs, and bamboo varieties. Trees include Terminalia arjuna, Pongamia pinnata, Mimusops elengi, and Butea monosperma. Bamboo species such as Bambusa vulgaris and Phyllostachys aurea, along with herbal and ornamental plants like Heliconia rostrata and Cymbopogon citratus, will also be planted. While most trees are native, several bamboo and ornamental species are introduced.
Facilities in the park will include benches, metal sculptures, RO water, and playground structures such as spiral slides, seesaws, swings, spring riders, climbing frames, music walls, and a sensory trail. A yoga area, pathways, parking, and toilets are also planned.
Other projects for which foundation stones were laid include construction of medians at Pollachi Main Road–Sundarapuram Road (₹22.6 lakh), Dr. Balasundaram Road (₹43.5 lakh), and Masakalipalayam Main Road (₹45 lakh).
