Class IX students in State schools who are appearing for the year-end examinations have received textbooks for Class X for the 2025-26 academic year.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday released the new Class X textbooks by handing these over to a group of Class IX students.

Mr. Vijayan, in a Facebook post, said that for the first time in the State’s history Class X textbooks were being distributed to students even before their Class IX examinations ended. Before the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government came to power in 2016, students did not get their textbooks on time and as a result faced many difficulties, he said.

The textbooks for Class I to X have been revised as part of curriculum reforms in the first phase. Last year, 238 textbook titles in Malayalam, English, Tamil, and Kannada for Classes I, III, V, VII, and IX were prepared and distributed. This year, 205 titles for Classes II, IV, VI, VIII, and X have been readied.

As students appear for public examinations in Class X, textbooks for that grade were printed quickly and made ready for distribution.

Importance has been given to work education and art education in the textbooks as part of the revision this year. Activity books in all subjects have been provided to students of Class I and II to improve their foundational skills.

The textbook are distributed for free to students in Classes I to VIII. Nearly 3.8 crore textbooks have been printed by the Kerala Books and Publications Society for 40 lakh students. These will be distributed through the Kudumbashree.

Minister for General Education V. Sivankutty and Minister for Finance K.N. Balagopal were present on the occasion.
