A Class VIII student, also a football player, sustained serious injuries in his ear drum after he was assaulted by a group of others following a verbal duel at a school ground at Payyoli in Kozhikode district of Kerala earlier this month.
According to the police, the incident happened on February 1 when he, along with others, was at the ground of a school in Payyoli for a training event. Some argument is reported to have occurred between the two groups from Chingapuram and Payyoli. The Class VIII student was attacked by the other group while he was returning after the event. In a video shared on some news portals, the student is seen getting beaten up though he is urging the others not to hit him.

No case registered
Meanwhile, family members of the student claimed that his ear drum had been damaged after the incident. Doctors have advised him rest for at least three months. They also alleged that though a complaint was filed at the Payyoli police station on February 3, a case had not been registered.
Officials at the police station, however, said that no case could be registered as the complainants and the accused were all juveniles.
Details of the social background of the students had been collected and forwarded to the Juvenile Justice Board. They would be asked to appear for a hearing at the board office at Vellimadukunnu in Kozhikode city on February 19, the officials added.
