Delhi Traffic Police issued 7,230 challans for various violations, including drunk driving, on Holi. The number of traffic violations recorded on Friday was more than twice the number reported on Holi in 2024 (3,589), data show.

A jump of nearly 56% was recorded in the number of helmet-related violations this year (2,376) over last year (1,524).

Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Dinesh Kumar Gupta said a total of 2,971 challans were issued for other traffic offences, compared to 1,241 in 2024, an increase of 139%.

The Capital saw a drop in the number of fatal accidents (four) over last year (14).

The data pertain to the violators booked between 8 a.m. and 11.59 p.m. on Friday.

“In view of the Holi celebrations on Friday, we made extensive arrangements to ensure the safety of pedestrians and motorists. Special measures were undertaken to check incidents of drunken driving, triple-riding, underage driving, and stunts performed on two-wheelers,” said Mr. Gupta.

The officer added that 40 teams, comprising personnel from Delhi Traffic Police, district units, and PCRs, were deployed at major intersections, hotspots, and vulnerable locations across the Capital.

“Special teams were strategically deployed across key stretches, intersections, and congested areas throughout Delhi. These teams were tasked with rigorously enforcing traffic laws and ensuring compliance,” said Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Ajay Chaudhry.
