The third edition of the Midnight Flag Hoisting on August 15, organised by #SatyamevaJayate, a collective of progressive artists and citizens, took place at the RBANM’s High School grounds in Ulsoor.
The event, which showcased India’s rich cultural diversity with performances by Oorali, Kayaka and Kalaburagi Kala Mandali, and students of RBANM’s institutions, began at 5 p.m. and concluded with the hoisting of the national flag at midnight.
Hoisting the flag at midnight on August 15 was a tradition followed by freedom fighters since 1947. In Bengaluru, Sajjan Rao Circle and Mysore Bank Circle were traditionally the spots for midnight flag hoisting. #SatyamevaJayate wants to keep alive this tradition after having revived it since 2023, said the organisers.
According to them, the motive of the event was to bring together people from different walks of life and showcase the founding values of the nation that the artistes espouse through their work.
“It is a call to understand the spirit of the freedom struggle which gave birth to our Constitution so that we can engage with the Constitution in meaningful ways and build a humane society steeped in ideals of Justice, Liberty, Equality and Fraternity,” said a statement from the collective.
