Two unidentified men, who came on a motorbike, snatched a five-sovereign gold chain from a woman police personnel in West Tambaram on Friday night.

The policewoman has been identified as Indira, who works at the City Police Commissionerate and lives on Devaraja Salai in West Tambaram. On Friday, when she was about to enter her house, the two men snatched the chain from her neck and rode away. She gave chase but soon lost track of them. 

She alerted the police control room, who intensified surveillance in the surrounding areas. The police intercepted the chain snatchers at the GST Road and Gandhi Salai junction, but they managed to give the personnel the slip. A video of the incident went viral on social media. 

Similar chain snatching incidents have been reported in Selaiyur, Manimangalam, and Guduvanchery on Friday night, said the police. Police have intensified their effort to trace the suspects.
