The Governorpet police on Friday rescued a two-year-old boy who was kidnapped by a minor girl from the Old Government General Hospital (GGH).

The girl befriended the boy’s family members who had come to GGH from Eluru for treatment. On Thursday, the girl kidnapped the boy on the pretext of offering him a chocolate, at around 6 p.m.

After the boy’s family lodged a complaint, Police Commissioner S.V. Rajashekar Babu formed special teams to trace the boy.

A team led by South Zone Assistant Commissioner of Police U. Bangaru Raju and Governorpet Circle Inspector A. Naga Murali spotted CCTV footage of the girl and the toddler near NTR Circle.

“Police took the minor girl into custody and rescued the boy in the early hours of Friday. The toddler was handed over to his parents safely,” said Mr. Rajashekar Babu.

During investigation, it was revealed that the girl planned to sell the toddler, said Deputy Commissioner of Police Gowthami Sali who investigated the case.
