Vemulawada MLA and Government Whip Adi Srinivas came down heavily on BRS leader T. Harish Rao on Friday, accusing him and former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), of deceiving Telangana in the name of water-sharing, and now resorting to false claims to mislead the public on the Banakacherla issue.
Speaking to reporters at the CLP office on Saturday, he said the decade-long betrayal of Telangana’s water interests by Mr. KCR and Mr. Harish Rao were exposed by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. “Both the Chief Minister and the Irrigation Minister have already raised objections with the Centre. If the issue is not resolved through dialogue, we will approach the Supreme Court,” he declared.
“In the past, former CM Jagan Mohan Reddy was invited to Pragathi Bhavan four times where Mr. KCR extended total help to Mr. Jagan to construct projects in Rayalaseema. Now, when our CM holds talks with Chandrababu Naidu to protect Telangana’s interests, Mr. Harish Rao calls it match-fixing. What hypocrisy is this?” he asked.
Mr. Srinivas said Mr. Chandrababu Naidu himself proposed talks to resolve the water dispute and Mr. Revanth Reddy responded positively. “If Andhra Pradesh agrees not to object to our projects on Krishna and Godavari, we can speed up development. But Mr. Harish Rao doesn’t want it,” he added.
He reminded that in the past, the BRS government agreed to just 299 TMC of Krishna water, later revising it to 405 TMC under pressure from the Congress. “Today, we are demanding 500 TMC, a full 100 TMC more than Mr. KCR ever dared to ask. This is the strength of the Revanth Reddy government,” he asserted.
