The body of a 32-year-old woman was found in a suitcase at her house in Hulimavu police station limits on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Gauri Anil Sambrekar alias Gauri Khedekar, a mass media graduate and a homemaker, who stayed with her husband Rakesh Rajendra Khedekar, 36, at a duplex house in Doddakammanahalli in Hulimavu.
“The woman’s body was found stuffed in the suitcase,” a senior police officer said. “Forensic analysts have found a stab injury on the body.”
The couple, originally from Maharashtra, moved into the third floor of the rented house this February for work, said the police. Rakesh was employed in a private firm and worked from home.
The police said that Rakesh allegedly called the victim’s parents claiming that she had committed suicide. The parents in turn called the homeowner.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Sarah Fathima said that the homeowner alerted the control room around 5.30 p.m. about the body and a team was immediately dispatched. At the time of the incident, Rakesh wasn’t at the house.
“As of now he is the prime suspect. He is on the run and efforts are on to trace him,” a police officer said.
A special team has been formed to track him down .
The parents of the victim have been informed, the police said.
