HYDERABAD
As part of its mission to accelerate energy efficiency in the society on a large scale and help stakeholders, particularly consumers, get the benefits, the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has been tasked to oversee the national survey to shape energy-efficient cooling solutions taken up by the Centre.
According to media advisor (South) of BEE A. Chandrasekhara Reddy, as part of the nation-wide survey, all stakeholders of energy would be engaged to identify energy-efficient cooling solutions to reduce electricity consumption, reduce emission of greenhouse gases and also mitigate the effects of climate change.
He stated that BEE was leading the initiative across the country to gather vital insights and collect data to shape policies and technological advancements in the cooling sector. The BEE has asked the State Designated Agencies (SDAs) across the country to actively promote and facilitate participation in the survey to ensure success of the mission.
In a communication to the SDAs – TGREDCO of Telangana, secretary of BEE Milind Deora stated that the initiative aligns with the Centre’s mission for reinforcing the commitment to promote sustainable cooling practices, enhance energy efficiency and combat climate change. By involving citizens, industries and other stakeholders, the survey would help shape policies and innovations in the cooling technology sector.
Mr. Reddy said the survey was live and accessible now at https://www.mygov.in/mygov-survey/shape-future-energy-efficient-cooling and would remain open till March 25. It would only take a few minutes to complete and offer citizens a unique opportunity to contribute to the country’s sustainable cooling future.
Key focus area
The key focus areas of the survey is to seek inputs on optimising AC temperature settings, transitioning to BEE 5-star-rated models, integrating renewable energy, overcoming cost and accessibility barriers and exploring market incentives such as buyback schemes and financing options. It would also examine the role of institutions in leading energy-efficient cooling adoption.
The insights would shape policies, raise awareness and drive a nationwide shift towards greener cooling solutions that align with the country’s sustainability goals, he explained.
Country’s energy consumption could be reduced by over 10 billion units a year
He stated that according to BEE’s standards and labelling programme, replacing outdated air conditions with 5-star-rated models could improve efficiency by up to 60% and reduce overall power consumption and household electricity bills. By adopting sustainable cooling solutions, the country’s energy consumption could be reduced by over 10 billion units a year and help reduce carbon emissions by 7.66 million tonnes a year.
