The Legal Aid Clinic (LAC) of Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University recently organised an awareness programme on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, at Kendriya Vidyalaya, IIT Madras.
The event was aimed at educating young students about their legal rights and the protections available under the Act. As per a release from the Law University, the session, which engaged students from classes 10 and 12, was structured and delivered by the student members of the Legal Aid Clinic, under the guidance of M. Sunil Gladson and P. Brinda, the faculty coordinators of the Clinic. Jefferey Andrew, a faculty member of the LAC, spoke on the importance of personal safety, emphasising concepts like ‘Good Touch and Bad Touch’. He encouraged students to be vigilant and to seek help if faced with inappropriate behaviour, the release said.
Key provisions of the Act were discussed, including its gender-neutral stance and the child-friendly procedures for investigation and trial.
