An assistant sub-inspector and three constables of Ramamurthynagar police station were suspended for allegedly detaining illegally a man from Kerala at the station for several days on the pretext of inquiry.

The man, identified as Rajeev, was picked up by police to question him on charges of renting an SUV from Kerala and allegedly trying to sell it in the city at a throwaway price.

Friends of Rajeev complained to SHRC who raided the station and found Rajeev was not there. The police had allegedly taken him to the washroom on the station premises and from there he was taken in a different vehicle soon after the raid.

With no proof available, the SHRC officials issued a notice to the inspector and the ASI seeking details about the incident and also sought the CCTV footage. The DCP, East Division, after coming to know about the incident, visited the station and suspended the four officers pending further inquiry.
