‘Appoint trained scribes to help students with disabilities during exams’

Tamil Nadu BJP spokesperson A.N.S. Prasad on Tuesday sought the intervention of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to safeguard the welfare of students with disabilities during exams.

In a statement, he said it is essential to appoint subject-specific teachers as scribes as they understand the requirements of students with disabilities and, thereby, assist them effectively. He pointed out that the scribes assigned often lack basic knowledge of the subject, leading to incorrect interpretations and answers. This not only affects the grades of the students but also their confidence.

Further, the scribes lacked proper training, exacerbating the problem, he said. It is imperative that the authorities concerned take immediate action to address these issues and ensure that the students with disabilities receive the necessary support to write exams on an equal footing with their peers, he added.
