The Alappuzha municipal headquarters will move into the 45,490. 39 sq ft Centenary Building near Alappuzha District Collectorate on Monday. Operations will commence on a trial-run basis for two weeks.

Officials said that the relocation of files, computer systems and other essential items to the new building was nearly completed. From Monday, all services will be provided to the public without any interruptions, an official added.

The municipality constructed the five-storey Centenary Building at a cost of around ₹15 crore and inaugurated it in 2020. However, it was inaugurated without electricity and drinking water connections, delaying the relocation of the municipal headquarters.

Officials said that the new building was built keeping in mind future requirements and demands. Almost all offices currently functioning in the existing municipal headquarters will be relocated to the new structure. Apart from office space, the building includes restrooms, toilets, special seating facilities for differently-abled and women, a conference hall and an air-conditioned mini-conference hall among other facilities.
