The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has sought the intervention of Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan in obtaining 50% seats under government quota in private medical colleges.

Addressing a press conference here, party secretary A. Anbalagan said the National Medical Commission has stipulated 50% of seats in private medical colleges to be reserved for Puducherry students under government quota. “However, the direction from NMC was not followed in Puducherry. We are only getting 36 per cent of the total seats under government quota. The Lieutenant Governor should intervene and help obtain 50% seats this academic year,” he said.

He also criticised the AINRC-BJP government for holding talks with representatives of private medical colleges when there are clear guidelines issued by the NMC. The AIADMK leader has also sought a probe by the Enforcement Directorate into the alleged smuggling of illicit liquor manufactured in Puducherry to Tamil Nadu.
