An advanced DVOR/DME (Doppler Very High Frequency Omni Range / Distance Measuring Equipment) navigational system was commissioned at Tiruchi International Airport on Thursday marking a significant improvement in the air navigation services provided by the airport. 

The new system, installed at a cost of ₹7.61 crore, is designed to improve accuracy, safety and efficiency of air navigation for aircraft operating to and from Tiruchi airport and those overflying Tiruchi air space. 

The advanced facility will provide an accurate azimuth and distance information to pilots, ensuring precise navigation besides improving flight safety. It incorporates advanced technology to meet international aviation standards for navigation aids. 

The system will support seamless navigation for inbound and outbound flight as well as overflying aircraft making Tiruchi a key navigational point in the region. Inaugurating the facility, G. Goplakrishnan, Airport Director, said the commissioning of the modern DVOR/DME system was a significant step forwards strengthening the airport’s air navigation infrastructure. 

“It demonstrates our commitment to ensuring safe and efficient air travel not only for our passengers but also for airlines operating in and through our airspace,” he said.

The new system will play a pivotal role in facilitating smooth air operations supporting the airport’s growing passenger and cargo traffic and further solidifying Tiruchi’s reputation as a vital hub in Tamil Nadu’s aviation network.  The Tiruchi airport continues to focus on upgrading its infrastructure to meet the evolving needs of the aviation industry, while ensuring a safe and seamless experience for all stakeholders.
