After a long wait, the State government has finally accorded administrative sanction for the construction of a new building for the Koyilandy police station. The project will be completed at a cost of ₹3 crore, sanctioned in the 2022–23 Budget.

Tendering procedures will be completed in two months for the fast-track project execution. The Kerala Police Housing Cooperative Society is the agency entrusted with supervising the construction works.

Police sources said the poor building facilities had been creating a lot of trouble for officers and complainants. A wider geographical area covering the Chemanchery, Chengottukavu, Moodadi, Arikkulam, and Keezhariyur panchayats had made it very difficult to operate with a small facility, they said.

“There will be improved parking facilities and areas for visitors upon completion of the new facility. We have received the magnanimous support of people’s representatives and local administrators in pushing for the demand, which had been pending for over a decade,” said a senior police officer from Koyilandy. He said efforts were also underway to transform it into a model police station.
