Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) alleged that its party chief Arvind Kejriwal’s security was again breached on Thursday as BJP workers “attacked” his vehicle in the “presence of police” in south-west Delhi.

Refuting the allegations, the BJP said it would be “more suitable” for Mr. Kejriwal if he focused on the “internal conflicts” within his party.

“Today in Hari Nagar, the police allowed the opposition candidate’s men to enter my public meeting and attack my car. All this is happening on the orders of [Home Minister] Amit Shah. Big questions are being raised on the Election Commission that the national president [Mr. Kejriwal] of a national party [AAP] and its leaders are being constantly attacked, and the EC is unable to take any effective action,” Mr. Kejriwal said in a post on X.

Though the Delhi Police did not officially comment on the issue, a senior police officer denied any attack on former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. “No attack has taken place on Mr. Kejriwal. Still we are investigating the entire matter,” the officer said.

AAP alleged that the attack left Mr. Kejriwal “stranded in his car” for an extended period while the police stood by as “silent spectators”, offering “no protection”.

Mr. Kejriwal currently has Z plus security.

“Arvind Kejriwal’s Jan Sabha in Hari Nagar turned into an unsafe ground as associates of the opposition candidate repeatedly interrupted his speech in an apparent attempt to derail the event. The situation escalated further as they once again attacked Arvind Kejriwal’s vehicle when he was leaving, showcasing a disturbing pattern of violence and intimidation,” AAP said in a statement.

Earlier this month, Mr Kejriwal had alleged that BJP goons tried to assassinate him by pelting a stone at his car while campaigning in the New Delhi constituency. The BJP, instead, blamed him of hurting three persons by his car.

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva alleged that Mr. Kejriwal had made “baseless allegations” of attack in Narela, Greater Kailash, and New Delhi earlier.

“Mr. Kejriwal, who often blames the BJP and other opponents for attacks, has forgotten that his own party is facing internal rebellion in Hari Nagar. Sitting MLA Rajkumari Dhillon is rebelling against Mr. Kejriwal’s declared candidate and contesting the elections herself. Just today, nearly 1,000 workers from Delhi’s four assembly constituencies resigned from AAP,” he alleged.
