The bypolls held to 28 local body wards on Monday (February 24) recorded a voter turnout of 65.83%, the State Election Commission said.
In all, 38,919 people including 20,937 women and 17,982 men queued up at the polling booths to exercise their franchise.
Sreevaraham ward in Thiruvananthapuram Corporation recorded a voter turnout of 52.4%. Kalluvathukkal in the Kottarakara municipality (Kollam district) recorded 75.47%, East High School ward in Muvattupuzha municipality (Ernakulam district) 81.97%, and Kumbazha North in Pathanamthitta municipality, 61.2%.
The results will be out on Tuesday. The votes will be counted across multiple centres from 10 a.m. on Tuesday (February 25). The results can be accessed on https://www.sec.kerala.gov.in/public/te/
In all, 87 candidates were in the fray for Monday’s bypolls. The Commission had originally notified bypolls to 30 wards in 13 districts. The number dipped to 28 after candidates in Kolikunnu ward of Madikkai grama panchayat and Pallipara ward in Cheemeni grama panchayat in Kasaragod were elected without contest.
