‘493 differently-abled persons in Coimbatore district received three-wheel scooters over last four years’

As part of welfare initiatives for differently-abled persons, 493 beneficiaries in Coimbatore district received three-wheel scooters valued at ₹4.83 crore over the past four years to enhance mobility.

Additionally, 57 individuals with spinal cord injuries were provided battery-operated wheelchairs worth ₹60.84 lakh.

According to a press release from the district administration, 116 beneficiaries received loans amounting to ₹32.29 lakh through the Small-Scale Business bank loan subsidy scheme. The Marriage Assistance Scheme supported 50 beneficiaries with ₹22.50 lakh, while 14 beneficiaries received ₹6 lakh to establish milk product sales centres under Aavin.

Further assistance included ₹6.42 lakh worth of wheelchairs for 70 beneficiaries and ₹2.31 lakhs for 11 individuals receiving customised three-wheel scooters. Assistive speech devices worth ₹4.38 crore were distributed to 817 beneficiaries, while 400 individuals received hearing aids valued at ₹13.14 lakh.

Monthly maintenance allowances totalling ₹1.67 crore were granted to 8,373 differently-abled persons. Educational scholarships worth ₹68.60 lakh were extended to 2,336 students, ensuring continued support for their academic pursuits.
