A 28-year-old woman, who was working as a domestic help in an apartment complex, was found bludgeoned to death on the Kalkere Lake bed in Ramamurthy Nagar on Friday morning. A preliminary investigation has indicated that she was sexually abused before being killed.

The deceased was identified by her husband, a civic worker in the city. According to the police, the deceased had no papers to establish her citizenship and is now suspected to be an illegal immigrant from Bangladesh, who had married a local.

Joggers found the body on the Kalkere lake bed on Friday morning and informed the police.

D. Devaraj, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East Division), Bengaluru, said that the victim was bludgeoned to death. “Investigation indicates that she was sexually assaulted before being killed with a boulder,” he said.

The deceased used to work as a domestic help in the D.S.R. Apartment in Ramamurthy Nagar. She had gone to work on Thursday and did not return home. Her husband Suman began searching for her and waited till Thursday night for her to return, before lodging a missing complaint on Friday morning. After the body was found, the police took the complainant to the spot and he identified the deceased as his wife.

“Based on a complaint filed by her husband, we have registered a case of sexual assault and murder. The investigation is under way. The autopsy report will shed more light on the sexual assault,” a senior police official said.
