Fourteen goats and two kids were charred to death at S. Kodikulam under K. Pudur police station limits in an accidental fire on Friday night.

According to the police, N. Natchammal, 70, a widow from S. Kodikulam, was living by grazing goats on S. Kodikulam irrigation tank.

She used to put the goats in a pen and light a fire lamp nearby every night. The woman would go to a nearby building to sleep.

When she got up on Saturday morning, she found the entire pen having been burnt along with 14 goats and two kids. Some of the goats had escaped from the fire.

She suspected that the lamp could have been pushed down by the goats leading to the fire. The K. Pudur police have registered a case.
