As part of the nationwide Mediation for the Nation campaign, the Ballari District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) has successfully resolved 117 cases through mediation marking a significant step toward promoting amicable settlements and reducing pendency in local courts.

The special 90-day campaign, organised between July 1 and October 7, 2025, was implemented under the directions of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and the Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee (MCPC) of the Supreme Court of India.

The initiative was monitored in Karnataka by the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority (KSLSA), Bengaluru.

According to Senior Civil Judge and Member Secretary of DLSA, Ballari, Rajesh N. Hosamane, the campaign aimed to encourage the public to embrace mediation as an effective and affordable means of dispute resolution.

“The campaign has achieved remarkable success in Ballari and Vijayanagara districts where 117 cases, 41 matrimonial disputes, 32 cheque bounce cases, 23 partition suits, three criminal compoundable cases, two domestic violence cases, one accident claim case and 15 other civil disputes, have been settled through mediation. In total, 920 cases were taken up for mediation during the 90-day campaign,” Mr. Hosamane said in a statement.

He added that the success of the campaign has been made possible by the collective efforts of the judges of the District Judiciary, lawyers, clients, mediators, the public and the media.

“Through mediation, disputes can be settled in a less adversarial and more harmonious manner. The process helps in maintaining relationships and saving time and money,” he said.

Statewide, the campaign witnessed impressive results, with the Karnataka Mediation Centres and 28 District Mediation Centres settling 5,575 cases, including 2,862 matrimonial disputes, 104 accident claims, 176 domestic violence disputes, 668 cheques bounce cases, 649 partition suits, 188 criminal compoundable cases, 129 land acquisition cases and 150 labour cases, through mediation, according to KSLSA.

The campaign was conducted under the guidance of Executive Chairperson, KSLSA, Anu Sivaraman and Chairman, State-Level Mediation Committee, Jayant Banerji. Frequent meetings, awareness drives and media outreach helped ensure public participation across the State, the statement said.
