The State Budget for 2025-26 has earmarked a total plan outlay of ₹317.90 crore for the Animal Husbandry sector.

Finance Minister K.N. Balagopal said an action plan would be jointly prepared by the Animal Husbandry and Local Self-Government departments to tackle the rising stray dog menace in Kerala. As part of the initiative, the government will explore the possibility of setting up a portable Animal Birth Control centre to enhance sterilisation efforts. A sum of ₹2 crore has been earmarked for this purpose.

An amount of ₹9.20 crore has been provided for the expansion of cross-breeding facilities. The total allocation for the Special Livestock Breeding Programme has been raised to ₹48.50 crore. A sum of ₹41.18 crore has been earmarked for the strengthening of veterinary services.

The Budget has set aside an amount of ₹32.46 crore to the Kerala Live Stock Development Board, which includes ₹2 crore for the establishment of a Dairy. A sum of ₹17.14 crore has been allocated to Meat Products of India.

The Dairy Development sector has received an allocation of ₹120.93 crore. Mr. Balagopal said that a global dairy village would be established in Dharmadom Assembly Constituency in Kannur. The cost of the project, which will be implemented in three phases, is estimated at ₹130 crore. An amount of ₹10 crore has been provided in the Budget as an initial allocation.

The Budget also proposes to set up a new Fodder Farm at Nettukaltheri expending ₹10 crore.
