Telangana High Court on Friday (September 19, 2025) granted three weeks of time to the petitioners — who sought a direction declaring that P. Venkatrama Reddy was ineligible to hold the post of MLC — to present documents supporting their contentions.
The petitioners wanted the HC to declare Reddy, who served as Medak district Collector before becoming MLC, was ineligible to hold the office of MLC as the Department of Personnel and Training of the Union Ministry officially did not accept his claim of voluntary retirement. While the State government issued an order accepting his ‘resignation’, the petitioners contended that he chose to voluntarily resign from the service but did not comply with the mandatory procedures.
One of the procedures was to serve a notice three months in advance to avail voluntary retirement but Reddy not follow it, the petitioners said based on the reply to a query raised through Right to Information Act. Senior counsel Avinash Desai appearing for Election Commission of India maintained that the petitioners should have challenged the GO issued by the State government accepting Reddy’s resignation if they wanted to challenge his election. The matter was adjourned after three weeks for next hearing.
