A tragic incident occurred during a Ganpati immersion procession on Khairani Road in Sakinaka, Kurla, on Sunday (September 7, 2025) morning, leaving one person dead and five others injured after being electrocuted.
According to information received from the Sakinaka Police Station, the mishap took place at around 10:45 a.m. when a hanging electric wire came in contact with the Ganpati idol during the immersion procession. Six devotees were electrocuted and were immediately rushed to nearby private hospitals.
At Seven Hills Hospital, 36-year-old Binu Sukumaran Kumaran was declared brought dead, hospital spokesperson Mr. Chinmay confirmed. Meanwhile, at Paramount Hospital, five injured devotees were admitted and are currently undergoing treatment. Dr. Tasmiya from the hospital stated that all five are stable. The injured have been identified as Subhanshu Kamat (20), Tushar Gupta (20), Dharmaraj Gupta (49), Karan Kanojia (14), and Anush Gupta (6).
BMC officials said that police officials have launched an investigation into the incident and assured that measures will be taken to prevent such mishaps in the future.
