Higher Education Minister Govi. Chezhiaan inaugurated many facilities at the College of Engineering (CEG), Guindy, including the renovated clock tower at the red building, a mini theatre, and a hall of fame on Sunday on the occasion of the centenary celebrations of its Alumni Association (AACEG).

The Minister said, “This college has upheld women’s education with the first woman engineer graduating from here.”

P. Shankar, Higher Education secretary, said that the ₹500 crore allocated for the college in the State Budget would soon be disbursed, and that a Government Order would be issued in this regard. “We are created by our parents; foundational learning is given by school teachers; but college shows us the ladder to life and world. Students must never forget their college, and must visit and nurture their roots,” he said.

The alumni association, in an effort to honour the distinguished alumni of the college, has constructed a hall of fame chronicling their famous predecessors, including a bust of Verghese Kurien donated by Amul.

“The mini theatre was built for the Media Science students to help them with their studies and art,” said J. Jayakanagaraj, AACEG secretary. An estimated ₹2 crore was used to set up the facilities, he added.

AACEG president Roop Chandar and treasurer M. Saravanan, CEG Dean P. Hariharan, and Anna University registrar J. Prakash also spoke at the event.
