Former CM Narayanasamy blames AINRC-BJP government for garbage crisis in Puducherry

Former Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy has blamed the ruling AINRC-BJP government for the present garbage problem confronting the people of Puducherry.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, the Congress leader said the agreement entered into by the government with the Tamil Nadu-based Green Warrior for managing solid waste in Puducherry was not done in a transparent manner. The government has signed an agreement with the agency for a period of 19 years and the amount charged by the agency per tonnage was exorbitant, he said.

“After the government entered into the agreement with the firm, the Congress party had raised several questions, including the necessity for giving the contract for a 19-year period. The firm’s charges are also very high. Now, the people are complaining about the work carried out by the firm. The conservancy workers are also not getting proper payment. The government is responsible for the situation,” the former Chief Minister said.

Welcoming the statement of Chief Minister N. Rangasamy suggesting government’s resolve to cancel the agreement if the agency failed to carry out their work properly, the Congress leader said, “While the warning given to the agency is commendable, it needs to be seen whether he (Mr. Rangasamy) would take any action against Green Warrior.”

He criticised the government for the delay in distribution of monthly free rice to ration card holders. The government had also failed to reimburse the tuition fee for Centac-sponsored students during the last three years, he said.
