Justice R. Suresh Kumar of the Madras High Court on Friday inaugurated the canteen on the Madurai District Court premises. The judge also unveiled the portrait of former president of the Madurai Bar Association A. Nedunchezian, who passed away last year. Justice Suresh Kumar will be inspecting the ongoing construction of the new court building on the premises on Saturday.

The new canteen was a long-pending demand of the advocates, who said the number of advocates, litigants, and court staff at the District Court had gone up. A canteen on the premises would benefit the people. It would save time and they did not have to go outside the campus, they said.
