Demanding the reopening of the Sterlite Copper, a group of advocates staged a demonstration here on Wednesday.

Led by advocate Muneeswaran, the lawyers raised slogans demanding the reopening of Sterlite Copper which was providing direct and indirect employment to several thousand workers while implementing social security schemes in the adjoining villages. Since the unemployed youth were getting addicted to alcohol and substance abuse while the caste outfits were using them for nefarious activities, the government should ensure the early reopening of Sterlite Copper.

Meanwhile, the Thoothukudi Advocates’ Bar Association, through a statement, distanced itself from this protest.
