With just one day left for the filing of nomination papers for the February 5 Delhi Assembly poll, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced its fourth list of nine candidates on Thursday, naming the party’s choices for the Greater Kailash and Babarpur Assembly constituencies from where Delhi Cabinet Ministers are contesting.

The party has fielded Shikha Rai from Greater Kailash to take on senior AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj and Anil Vashishth from Badarpur to contest against AAP’s Gopal Rai.

With this, the BJP has announced 68 candidates for the 70-member House so far.

Subsequently, its ally Janata Dal (United) declared Shailendra Kumar as its candidate from the Burari Assembly constituency.

According to sources, the Union Minister Chirag Paswan-led Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), an ally of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance, is likely to name its candidate from the Deoli (reserved) seat in south-east Delhi.

The BJP fielded three-time MLA Karan Singh Tanwar’s son Bhuvan Tanwar from Delhi Cantonment and Purvanchali leader Chandan Kumar Chaudhary from Sangam Vihar.

It also named Sanjay Goyal from Shahdara seat to take on Jitender Singh Shunty, who recently quit the party to join AAP. Other candidates fielded are Poonam Sharma from Wazirpur, Ravinder Kumar Indraj from Bawana, Ravikant Ujjain from Trilokpuri (SC) and Praveen Nimesh from Gokalpur (SC).

High-profile candidates

Meanwhile, several key candidates, including BJP’s Harish Khurana, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Arvinder Singh Lovely, Congress’s Sandeep Dikshit, and AAP’s Manish Sisodia, filed their nomination papers.

The last day for nominations is January 17; for withdrawal, it is January 20.
