The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has obtained a court order for the attachment of 14 properties worth approximately ₹7 crore belonging to the then-Additional Commissioner of Income Tax in connection with an alleged disproportionate assets case.

The accused has been identified as Amit Nigam, an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer from the 1999 batch. “The Special Judge, Anti-Corruption, CBI Court No. 1, Ghaziabad, has issued an ad-interim order on June 2, 2025, for the attachment of 14 properties of the then-Additional Commissioner…,” the agency stated.

The CBI had registered the case on September 22, 2022, alleging that the official, while posted and functioning as Deputy Commissioner, Joint Commissioner, and Additional Commissioner from January 2008 to June 30, 2018, in Income Tax Department offices in Delhi, Moradabad, Lucknow, and other locations, engaged in corrupt practices. He allegedly acquired assets worth over ₹7.52 crore disproportionate to his known sources of income.

During the investigation, the agency identified 14 assets acquired or possessed by the accused and his family members, located in Ghaziabad, Lucknow, Hardoi, and Barabanki in Uttar Pradesh, as well as in Goa, the CBI said.
