A head constable, who was supposed to appear for a police inquiry for allegedly causing an accident by hitting a motorist near Maduvankarai on Tuesday (May 20, 2025) night, died by suicide near the Taramani railway station on Wednesday (May 21) morning. 

A senior official of the City Police said Senthil, who worked as a head constable at the Taramani police station, was driving home to the St. Thomas Mount police quarters on Tuesday night when the accident occurred. As he was travelling on the Maduvankarai flyover, Senthil, who was in an inebriated state, hit a two-wheeler in front of him.

In the accident, 54-year-old Murugesan, driving the two-wheeler, fell off the vehicle and sustained injuries. Senthil tried to speed away but was stopped by other motorists near the Kathipara flyover. He was handed over to the police officials of the Guindy Traffic Investigation. 

The Guindy Traffic Investigation police sent the accident victim Murugesan to Government Royapettah Hospital for treatment and filed a case against Senthil for drunk driving. The police officials then directed Senthil to come to the Guindy police station for an inquiry on Wednesday.

On Wednesday morning, he went to the Taramani police station to record his presence, and then left for the Taramani railway station, where he ended his life. The video of the police official being caught by the public had gone viral on social media on Tuesday night.
